Mazipan (Almond burfi)/ Nuts Modak

Ingredients

  • Mazipan roll = One
  • Ghee to grease hands moulds
  • Modak mould small size
  • Yellow Gel food Coloring
  • Saffron - pinch

Instructions

  • Filling: Coarse blend dry roasted cashews, almonds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds. Add few drops of honey to make them stick together.
  • Take the marzipan roll out of the foil and cut into 2 pieces. Put 2-4 drops of yellow gel food coloring and mix well. Soak the saffron in 1 teaspoon of milk and add to the marzipan dough.
  • Next put the dough in to the small modak mold and pack tightly against the walls. Then make a hole from the bottom with your little finger. Fill with the nuts/honey mix . And close the bottom with the overhanging dough. Remove from the mould carefully. The delicious the Saffron/nuts moadaks are ready for Ganesh Chaturthi !
  • They taste divine!

Notes

Tips:
You can make the almond burfi dough or make with cashew/sugar as well. I wanted to save time, so I went with the readymade almond burfi dough called marzipan that is freely available in bakery stores or in Amazon.
Sometimes if the dough is outside verylong, it gets very soft and sticks to the hands, mould and plate. You can put back in refrigerator or jut use dough and make center pit and fill with nuts and make it like a modak shape. Make the ridges by a side of the spoon or fork.
